Obituary for Ona Belle Watson

Ona Belle (Cathey) Watson, a longtime resident of Tonkawa, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Willow Haven Nursing Home.

A celebration of her life will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2018, at Christian Life Church, Tonkawa, with Rev. Josh Reese officiating. Viewing will be on Sunday, June 10 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm at Trout Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Tonkawa.

Ona Belle was born in Braman, Oklahoma, on June 2, 1926 to John and Fanny Cathey. They moved to Tonkawa when she was 4 years old in August of 1932. She graduated from Tonkawa High School on May 25, 1945 and married Jesse Watson on January 6, 1946. They were married 55 years, until Jesse preceded her in death on January 4, 2001. Four children were born of this marriage: Lynn, Nelda, Terry and Cathy.

Her daughter, Cathy also preceded her in death on January 3, 2013.

Of the three other siblings, six grandchildren came about: Katy, Rachel, Michael, Edward, Christopher and Joshua. Then came along fourteen great grandchildren.

Ona Belle loved being with her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing board games and cards with them. She loved having her family around at Thanksgiving, Christmas and anytime. She was a wonderful mother and even better grandmother.

Red was one of her favorite colors, and how she love that red lipstick and fingernail polish.
Ona Belle was not a fisherman, nor did she cook or eat the fish. I do not think Jesse was allowed to cook fish in the house, but she loved the fishing trips. Family reunions at Lake Texoma were one of her favorites and then on to Branson.

She loved being involved at the First Christian Church, where she raised all her children. The whole family was involved at the Guthrie Church Camp.

She is survived by her son, Lynn Watson and wife Pamela (Lavelle) of Coolidge, Arizona, daughter, Nelda Fry and husband Nevin of Edmond, OK, son, Terry Watson and wife, Linda (Childers) of Oklahoma City, OK, great grandchildren, Shane, Thomas, Cassity, Jessalyn, Bobby, Zoe, Katy, Elizabeth, Anthony, Heather, Penelope, Eloise, Adelyn, and Finnigan, sisters, Josephine Williamson of Tonkawa, OK and Madelyn Williamson of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are Katy Hall, Rachel Vence, Edward Fry, Michael Fry, Christopher Watson and Josh Watson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to: Make Promises Happen Program, 1 Twin Cedar Lane, Guthrie, OK 73044.

Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Tonkawa
