Obituary for Foster Olson

Foster “Reggie” Reginald Olson, 68, passed away April 16, 2019 at the Treemont Retirement Community in Houston, Texas. He was born July 8, 1950 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Norvell Leon and Dorothy Marie (Ellis) Olson.
Foster was an active member of his community as an Eagle Scout, a member of the Order of the Arrow, Black Beaver Council of Oklahoma, and staff member of the Adobe Walls Council of Oklahoma.
He attended Anadarko High School in Anadarko, Oklahoma where he was on the varsity basketball, football, and track and field teams The family moved to Norman, Oklahoma for his senior year where he was on the varsity basketball and track and field teams at Norman High School. In track and field, his specialty was the shot put and discus, breaking the school record three times in discus and ranked third in discus at the State Meet. He was inducted in the National Honor Society and graduated in 1968.
In 1968, he attended the University of Oklahoma and left to join the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam war on January 22, 1970. The Navy sent him to Personnel Class “A” School in Orlando, Florida and assigned him to the Naval Air Station in Miramar, California. He was released from active service on December 11, 1973 with the rank of Personnelman Second Class and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Transferring to the Naval Reserve, he served two more years and was discharged on October 13, 1975.
While in the Naval Reserve, Foster attended the University of Oklahoma. He was recruited to the Oklahoma State University varsity track and field team and transferred there. At the State Meet, he ranked third in discus.While at OSU, he was on the President’s and Dean’s Honor Roll, was a letterman, a member of Delta Sigma Pi, and the Accounting Club. He graduated in May 1977 with a Bachelor in Busines Administration with a major in Accounting.
Working toward a Master of Business Administration at the University of Oklahoma, he completed 30 hours of graduate work. U. S. Army Audit Agency Southwestern Region auditor was his last job.
Foster enjoyed playing dominoes with his niece, Samantha Nemeth. We miss him.
Surviving him are his sister, Sandra Nemeth, Houston, Texas and niece, Samantha Nemeth, New York, New York.
He was buried in the I. O. O. F. cemetery in Tonkawa, Oklahoma on April 23, 2019. Tom Howard, Pastor of Community Christian Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma officiated. U. S. Military honors were performed by the U. S. Navy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
